5 days** UPDATE

My last post was just the beginning of the worst 5 days of the past year. It trumps all the sleepless nights, the major poops, even the pushing of labor and waiting to meet my bestest gal.
This stomach bug has taken my family hostage and tortured us in ways this Mamma was not quite ready for*.
I was not ready for a stomach bug, or any bug really. Calli had a temp a few weeks ago but even that was so slight and she was over it before it really began. I was convinced that Calli was invincible... I knew deep down in my heart that I was kidding myself but I was enjoying while it was true.
It started Wed night and I truly wasn't convinced that it was a stomach bug until I called my daycare provider to tell her that Calli had gotten sick the night before and would be staying home and she told me that Calli wasn't the only one. Two kids had already gotten sick and it seemed like it was hitting everyone.
I thought we were doing well until about 4:30pm on Thursday when she got sick again. I got ahead of myself and was convinced the bug had taken it's toll and I probably fed her too much, or so I told myself. Calli had been "spitting" up all day. She had not been producing any wet diapers and I was really concerned about it so I called the dr. She said that if we didn't get one by 9pm to head into the emergency room. We were really nervous and of course she didn't have a wet diaper so in we headed. After we got there and waited for about 30 minutes we were seen by the triage team and they were surprised that the dr. sent in. She was a very happy baby and had wet lips and was not showing any serious signs of dehydration. Of course when they went to take her temp her diaper was nice and wet. We decided to take her home instead of waiting in the germ infested waiting room to get confirmation from the doctor. In that moment I realize that I know better than books and doctors that are giving me diagnoses over the telephone. I was pretty sure we were ok but when a dr tells you to head into the ER you go. I wasn't upset with my decision it just helped me to be a better mom.
Friday I stayed home again because I didn't want my colleagues to get sick and Calli was still staying home. She seemed to be doing better so I fed her a banana as well as some pedia-lyte. Again she was doing great until about 3:30p when she tossed her bananas (so to speak). Grossest moment EVER. Until of course you add in the toxic poops. DANG that was some stinky nasty mess.
Saturday was liquid only and that had to be the worst because we had to limit her liquids as well. She was crying from hunger, pain, being pissed off... who knows. It was hard to watch. Saturday night I really felt like she had turned the corner and we all seemed to be doing better. At about 11:30pm I got sick and was sick again first thing in the morning. UGH. That was the worst. Hubby had the other half of the business and we were all down for the count on Sunday. In the AM I tried giving her a cracker and she spit that up too and I figured she just wasn't ready for solids yet so we did another day of torture or liquid diet. She HATED it. So did I. I was breastfeeding but only for a few minutes at a time and to both of us that was torture!! By Sunday evening we were all sick of each other, sick of the liquids and just plain sick of being sick; so we got better. To play it safe and make sure that we could all take solids again we stayed home on Monday and did just that, tried getting back to a diet of solid food, washed every thing that had come in contact with the bug and tried to enjoy ourselves... and that we finally did. The moral to this story is STAY AWAY from this damn bug!!!

*this is really dramatic.... but it really truuly was terrible!!

PS- pics to come.

So that wasn't the end of it... Tuesday night while Calli slept she got sick again. I was horrified and bewildered and couldn't quite understand... she had done so well for a few days. UGH. So I stayed home again (for those keeping track 4th day off of work) and took her to the doctor because I was just so crazed at that point and wasn't sure what else to do. So to make this super long story a little shorter; we were dealing with a potential 7-10 day bug and there was lots of opportunity for it to rear it's ugly little head after a couple of days of things going well. There is a fine line and no way of knowing where it is; it's all just trail and error. The good news is that she was well hydrated and I was doing all the right things... just keep doing what you're doing and go slow was the answer. UGH. Glad that I was doing the right things hated that there wasn't a quick fix answer. She did great the rest of the afternoon, went back to daycare on Thursday and hasn't had another occurrence since. The really sad news is that when they weighed her she lost all the weight she had gained in the last 3 months and probably won't get back on track for another couple of months. :(

Stomach bug

Last night was my first encounter with the dreaded stomach bug. The only thing I have to say is, it could have been worse and OMG if it could have been worse I am not sure what I would have done.
Calli started getting sick around 9pm and I think the last bit of vomit happened around 2am. We went through 4 pairs of pajamas, three towels, one top sheet, one pair of sweats, shirt and slippers (although they really needed to get washed) of mine and then this morning we went through an outfit. Lots of laundry happening at our house today.
The worst part is not really understanding what was going on with her and feeling helpless to making it better. I cried a bit because I wished I could take the ick away and make it better.
We are home today together and I still want to take the ick away. She seems to be doing better but still not 100%.

11 months

UNBELIEVEABLE!
No stats today, Calli will go for her 1 year appointment next month and I will give you the details then. Today she woke up happy and smiling and ready for the day. She loves to blow kisses and talks up a storm. She likes to play by herself and walk around the house pushing her baby doll Stella in her stroller. Calli plays peek-a-boo and patty cake and claps her hands (the last two look a lot alike!). Calli will follow you around the house because she likes to be in on the action and wants to know what is going on. She also cruises along the furniture practicing for the day when my world comes crashing down and she starts walking. She has lots of friends at daycare and plays all day long.
All in all I have the happiest baby on the planet... unless of course I try to clean her nose, then all bets are off and the screaming begins.
Hope you all have a happy happy day!

Big girl

Baby girl is getting so big. She is pushing her walker to get around until she hits a piece of furniture then she is cruising the furniture. She has discovered the cabinets in the kitchen and won't let the refrigerator or freezer door open without getting her hands on something in there. Very curious little lady. She suddenly hates hats and hair clips. This one lasted about 2 seconds after these pics were snapped. We are looking forward to another potential snow storm on Monday. Even though we are sick of the snow we are excited for a long weekend.
Have a good one!

37 years and 10 months

Today is my birthday and I turn 37 years old and my daughter will be 10 months tomorrow. We are having a blast! Last night we went out to dinner to celebrate and had a great time. Today I took the day off so we could relax a little.
Calli being pulled in the sled.

My birthday dinner.

Calli had some rice and beans!

Morning shenanigans.

My pretty girl.

What is this stuff? And why is my bum so cold?

It was way too bright.

9 month stats

Calli is 9 months old!! Wahoo. What a great time we are having. She is crawling like crazy and pulls herself up wherever she can get a hold of something.
Her stats:
Weight= 20lb 2oz; 75%
Length= 27 1/2 inches; 50%
Head circumference= 44.1cm; 50-75%
She is doing great. She is learning to wave goodbye and slowly figuring out how to clap her hands. She shrieks with happiness and rubs her feet together when she is happy and ready to eat.

Here are some recent pics!

New for this year!

I am not making resolutions per say but I am trying to do some new stuff this year...
  • I am making a HUGE effort to get up earlier. I hate running late in the morning and as it is I haven't been bringing Calli to daycare as early and I can be. So far I have accomplished it for the past two mornings and it has been great. It also means that I have to get my act together at night and that has been working too. I really hope it lasts.
  • At this moment I do not read to Calli on a regular basis. Once we sit down and start to read she inevitably takes the book from me and starts to chew it or close it and throw it. And if I hold steady and don't give her the book she starts to fuss and complain. I want this to change. I would really like us to start a bedtime story.
  • I need to get my act together more on the weekend and be more planful about what we are eating as a family. We don't do take out and I don't necessarily cook every night... so I'm not really sure how we get fed every day. Hubby (when he comes home early) is usually hungry before I get home so he either has a snack or ends up eating dinner by the time I am walking in the door. If that has happened I don't usually feel the necessity to make a full dinner and will usually eat whatever I can get my hands on... chips and salsa, a sandwich, eggs... But now that Calli is starting to eat the same things that we eat I really want to get to a place where we are eating a family meal...  together. It worked on Sunday...
  •  I am anxious for the nice weather because I REALLY want to start walking again. I think Calli would love it and I NEED it; mentally more than anything else.
  • I really would like to start to live more in the moment. I have the tendency to spend a lot of time worrying about what is to come or what just happened and never get to really soak in the moment. Thinking of the past nine months and how quickly it has flown by makes me realize that it is SO IMPORTANT to do this. This weekend I spent a lot of time just watching Calli play and it made me so happy. She is so inquisitive and playful and daring. She gets herself into a jam and gets right out of it. She is amazing.
  • Lastly I need to find 10 minutes a day to stretch. A friend of mine asked me what I wanted to change for this new year and this is what I said... and now I really want to do it. My back, shoulders, legs and arms are so tight all of the time. I noticed this morning every time I pick up the car seat I feel a twinge in my back. NOT GOOD! Never before did I realize how hard it is to find 10 minutes a day to do something so easy. I still haven't done this but I *resolve* to try.
